WHAT IS COMPUTER?
Computer is an electronic machine, operating
under the control of instructions stored in its
own memory. It works in the following ways :
w It accepts data.
w It manipulates the data according to specified
rules.
w It produces results.
w It stores the results for future use.
Hardware : The tangible, physical equipment that can be
seen and touched such as:
w Computer case (houses the components)
w Monitor w Keyboard w Mouse w Speakers
Software : The intangible set of instructions that
tells the computer what to do. These are mainly
two :
w Application Software w System Software
Data : Information entered into the computer to be processed
w Text w Numbers w Sound w Images
System Software
File Management Operating System Utilities Assembler
Tools
Compilers Debbuger
Application Software
Word Processing Spreadsheets Graphics Games
Communications Databases
