Cartosat-2 series satellite is the primary satellite carried by PSLV-C40. This
remote sensing satellite is similar in configuration to earlier satellites in the
series and is intended to augment data services to the users.
Here are some interesting facts about the historic Cartosat-2 series
satellite mission.
1. Till date, India has launced 57 foreign satellites from
about 20 countries, earning about $100 million.
2. With 20 satellites, ISRO has beaten its previous
records of placing 10 satellites in one go.
3. Cartosat-2 series is simillar to the earlier Cartosat-2,
2A and 2B and 19 co-passenger satellites together
weighing about 560 kg at lift-off would be injected
into a 505 km polar Sun–synchronous Orbit.
4. The other two Indian satellites are Sathyabhama and
Swayam.
5. This was 36th launch by ISRO, the total cost of lifting
20 satellites into space is 10 times less than other
space agencies.
6. The main passenger satellite comes from the home
land with the name Cartosat which can take images at
sub-metre resolution.
7. Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C-34 (PSLV) carried 18
