Perimeter of a Square A 8 cm D
A square has four equal sides.
Perimeter = Sum of all its sides.
= AB + BC + CD + DA 8 cm 8 cm
= 8 cm + 8 cm + 8 cm + 8 cm
or 4 × one side of square
= 4 × 8 = 32 cm B C

Perimeter of a Rectangle
A rectangle has four sides. The opposite sides are equal.
Perimeter = Sum of all its sides.
or 2 × (Length + Breadth) A 9 cm D
= 2 cm + 9 cm + 2 cm + 9 cm
= 2 × 2 cm + 2 × 9 cm 2 cm 2 cm
= 2 (2 + 9) cm
= 2 × 11 cm B C

= 22 cm
Longer side of a rectangle is called its length and
shorter side is called its breadth or width.
