Mountain Region
All the animals living at high al tudes have
long, thick hair. It protects them from the
severe cold and provides warmth to the
animals.
Some animals that live on high al tude
have strong limbs for running up the rocky
and cold slopes of the mountains.
For example, mountain goat.

Polar bear looks white, but underneath
its fur the polar bear is black. Black skin
soak up heat from the sun and keeps
them warm. The polar bear appears
white because it is covered with white,
but hollow hair.

Animals in Aerial Habitat
Animals that can fly in the air are called
aerial animals. Birds and bats fly in the air.
Birds have wings to fly with. They also have
hollow bones which make their body light
and make them fly.
Bats are not birds. They are mammals. They
do not have true wings. Their wings are
made of flaps of skin.
Many insects also have wings which help
them to fly in the air.

The skin of birds is covered with feather.
Feathers are light, elas c, water proof and
play significant role in flight. They also
provide birds with warm and protec on in
the rain.
The bones of the birds are hollow which

body light and add buoyancy during flight.
Fore limbs of birds are modified into wings
for flying in the air.
Birds have beaks which are used to catch
insects, clean feather and to make nests.
Because birds lack teeth, their bills have
evolved to perform feeding ac vi es.
