C. Write True or False.
1. Sugar is distributed in different parts of the plants through phloem.
2. The stem xylem tubes are connected to the leaves of the plants.
3. When water and minerals enter the cells, they begin to decay.
4. Transpira on maintains turgidity that helps in growth of plants.
5. The temporary wil ng occurs in the a ernoon when the rate of transpira on is
much higher than the rate of water absorp on.
D. Very short answer ques ons.
1. What is transporta on?
2. What is osmosis?
3. Name the tubes through which water reaches the leaves.
4. What are vascular bundles?
5. What happens to plants when the rate of absorp on is lower than the rate of
transpira on?
E. Short answer ques ons.
1. Why transporta on is important in plants?
2. Differen ate between diffusion and osmosis.
3. Differen ate between xylem and phloem.
F. Long answer ques ons.
1. What is transporta on in plants?
2. What are the factors affec ng transporta on in plants? Describe.
3. Explain the transporta on of food in plants.
4. Explain the ac vity which shows the process in which plants carry the process of
transpira on.

Project Activity
Take two po ed plants (marigold). Do not water one plant for two or three days and water the
other plant regularly. Keep both of them in the sunlight. A er two or three days later, you will
observe that the plant which has not been watered has started wil ng whereas the watered plant
is healthy. This shows that plants start wil ng due to lack of water. Write your observa on on a
chart paper and show it to your teacher.

A. Give reason why it is so important for plants to transpire.
B. Plants do not use all the water they absorb from the soil. Much of it is given off by transpira on.
Why then do plants absorb so much water?
