             Force and Pressure

               • Effect of Force • Types of Force – Contact Force and Non-contact Force
               • Pressure • Applica on of Pressure in Our Daily Life
               • Atmospheric Pressure

Force plays a great role in our life as it is helpful Force is also applied on a moving object to
in doing any work. Like in playing cricket and change its direc on. Suppose, a bicycle is
basketball. We need force to play. Force is moving. If you want to make the bicycle move
defined as a push or a pull or we can say force faster you will have to apply an extra force in
is a physical quan ty that can change the the same direc on. Similarly, if you want the
speed, state, direc on and dimension of an bicycle to slow down, you will have to apply
object. For example, when we put the force on force in the opposite direc on.
              the door it opens.

                             EFFECT OF FORCE
You have studied about force and what can we
              do by applying force.

Let us study the effects of force:
v Force can make a sta onary object move.

A sta onary object remains in rest un l a force
acts upon it. Thus, to move a sta onary object
we apply a force on it.

For example, li ing a glass, throwing a ball,
Force is being applied to make the
kicking a ball, etc. bicycle move faster.
v Force can change the speed of a moving
But, what will you do to stop the bicycle? For
                  object.
this, you will have to apply a force on the
bicycle in equal amount and in opposite
