Growing a plant from a seed:
Have you ever grown a plant from a seed? Did you know that you can grow
sprouts from lentils in just a few days?
What will you need?
1. A jar with a wide mouth 2. A square of muslin cloth
3. A rubber band 4. A quarter of a cup of lentils
(not split or in dal form)
What to do?
1. Measure out a cup of lentils. Rinse them in
cool water and leave them in a large bowl
of water overnight.
2. The next morning, strain out the water,
rinse the lentils and strain them again.
3. Take a large jar and fill it 1/3 full with
lentils. This leaves space for growth.
4. Cover the opening of the jar with muslin
cloth. Secure it with the rubber band.
Place it on its side in a warm, light place.
Teacher should tell about this activity one day before teaching this chapter
