We see different people around us,
who do different jobs for us. Our

lives are impossible without them.
Let’s learn about various
occupations.

What is Occupation?

People do different kinds of work to earn money. The work they do is called
their occupation or profession.

We depend on various people to get various things done. Without their help,
our life would be really difficult.

Jobs that need special training and education are called professions. People

who do these jobs are called professionals. Doctors, engineers, pilots,
teachers and architects are professionals. Some jobs need skills like that of a
mechanic, potter, tailor and carpenter.

Let us meet a few people at work to take a look at the jobs they do and the
tools they use.

Types of Occupations

This is Raghu. He is a potter. He makes beautiful

clay pots on his potter’s wheel. He also makes
small diyas which are used during Diwali. His wife
helps him to paint the pots and diyas.
