H Indian Monuments
India is the land of historical
monuments. In this chapter, we will
read about some of our most well-
known monuments.
Historical places are old buildings, forts, places or religious place that were
built long ago. Let us learn about some of the famous monuments.
The Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal, located at Agra in Uttar Pradesh,
is said to be one of the Seven Wonders of the
World and is also called a dream in marble.
Emperor Shah Jahan built this tomb in the
memory of his beautiful wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Taj Mahal
It is on the southern bank of the River Yamuna. It is built of white marbles
and laid with semi-precious stones. It took about 22 years to complete its
construction. Over 20,000 workmen and craftsmen worked hard to give it
this unique shape.
The Qutub Minar
The Qutub Minar is the highest stone tower in
India. It is 72 metres high monument built of
red sandstone. It was started by Qutb-ud-din
Aibak and was completed by the Sultan’s
successor and son-in-law, Iltumish .
