6 Prominent Astronomers

An astronaut is a person who is specially trained into outer space. Astronauts aboard a
            spacecraft may have different responsibilities.

Pictures and names of some prominent astronomers are given below. Read the
descriptions given below and write their names.

            1. He along with his sister Carobine
discovered the planet Uranus in 1781.

            2. The ring around planet Saturn was
discovered by this astronomer and he
devised the wave theory of light.

                _________________________________ Nicolas Copernicus Edmond Halley
            3. The first telescope used in astronomy
                was built by this astronomer.

                _________________________________
            4. He predicted the orbits of comets and
one comet has been named after this
                astronomer.

                _________________________________
                                                                        Jocelyn Bell Galileo Galilei
            5. This astronomer was first to discover
that the sun is at the centre of the solar
                system.
                _________________________________

            6. He made tremendous discoveries about
galaxies. A big space telescope is named
                after him.
                _________________________________ Christian Huygens Isaac Newton

            7. He revolutionized astronomy by his
theories of gravity and the motions of
                planets.
                _________________________________

            8. He was the first to detect pulsars in 1967
                at the Cambridge University.
