             Use of   and A    An


             G  A  and       An  mean  one.      A  and   An  are  placed  before  countable  nouns  in  the
                   singular number.

                   For example:

                   A book, a pen, an apple, an umbrella.

             G  A     is used with words beginning with consonants or consonant sound.

                   For example:

                   Mohan is   good boy.a


             G  An     is used before words beginning with a vowel or a vowel sound.

                   For example:
                   I have an    umbrella.


             Use of The

             It is used:

             G  to talk about something that has already been mentioned.

             G     to talk about a particular thing such as the apple tree.

             G     to talk about a noun that represents the whole class such as the peacock.

             G     it is also used before the name of:

                         Mountain ranges                                     the Himalayas

                         Oceans and seas                                     the Arabian Sea

                         Rivers                                              the Gangas

                         Famous monuments                                    the Red Fort

                         Holy Books                                          the Bible

                         Newspaper                                           the Times of India

                         Things that are one of their kind                   the India Gate
