6 Fractions
Fraction means a part of one whole thing. We can divide an object into many
fractions.
Take an apple. It is a whole. Cut it into many
equal parts and remove one part of it.
We say the piece removed is a fraction of
the apple.
Let us learn more about fractions. Whole apple A fraction of
the apple
Whole
Take a sheet of paper.
This is whole as it is not divided into any parts.
Half
Join the sheet of paper end to end and fold it.
When unfolded, the sheet of paper will look like this.
Note that a crease has divided the paper into two
equal parts. Each part is half of the full.
One-half : 1 of 2 equal parts.
