1                    Large Numbers







            Looking Back


            Calculating and counting can be done through numbers i.e., 1, 2, 3, 4, 5....etc. These
            numbers are called natural numbers          .

            The number ‘0’ together with the natural numbers i.e., 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...are called whole
            numbers.

            Digit  figures  are  the  ten  symbols  —  0,  1,  2,  3,  4,  5,  6,  7,  8  and  9  used  to  represent

            numbers.

            A  group  of  digits  denoting  a  number  is  called  numeral         .  For  example;  23,  426,  7849,
            83542, etc. are numerals. The method of representing a number in digits or figures is
            called notation   .

            Numeration is known as the method of expressing a number in words.

            Following are the main three ways of showing any number. We take 8432 as an example.

            7 and 8-digit Numbers


            To read or write numerals of large numbers without difficulty, we group the digits into
            periods in the place value chart. There are two types of number systems. These are :
