            Multiplication of Fractions

Multiplication of a Fraction by a Whole Number

Repeated addition is called multiplication. In the multiplication of a fraction by a whole

number, we will use the same definition.
                                                 8
Example : Let us multiply .
                                                    × 1
                                                10

                              8 8 1 8 × 1 8
            Solution : × 1 = × = =
                             10 10 1 10 × 1 10

                              2
            Example : by 4 = ?
                              5

                              2 2 2 2 2 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 8 3
            Solution : × 4 = + + + = = = 1
                              5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5

From the above, we see that
                                                                                        Know

H When we multiply a fraction

                                                                                   answer.

Example : Simran made burgers for her 10 friends. When they shared the burgers
equally, each of them got half a burger. How many burgers did Simran make ?

Solution : Let us add each person’s share and find out.
