i Almost all the animals are heterotrophs.
i The heterotrophs are usually free living and hence have holozoic mode of nutrition, i.e., feed
on solid organic matter.
i The pancreas is a long, flat gland that lies in the abdomen behind the stomach.
i There are four types of teeth—incisors, canines, premolar and molar.
i Tongue has four distinct types of taste buds which help us to taste the food.
i Food is temporarily stored in stomach.
i A type of digestion which takes place within the cell is called intracellular digestion.
i Grass eating animals are called ruminants. They have four chambers in their stomach
namely rumen, reticulum, omasum and abomasum.
i In the rumen, bacteria and other micro-organisms act upon the food. Thereafter, this food is
sent to the next chamber called reticulum.
