We cannot live without water. All

living things depend on water for
their survival. Where do we get
this water from?

Let us study about the same.

Water makes life possible. It is one of the basic constituents of all living
beings. We need water for drinking, bathing, washing, cooking and many
other activities. Plants need water to live and grow. Animals also need water
to drink and take bath. About three-fourth of our planet, the earth, is

covered with water. Therefore, the earth is also known as blue planet .
Sources of Water

Let us study about various sources of water.

Rain

Rain is the main source of water on the
earth. Rainwater is the purest form of
natural water. It fills rivers, lakes and

ponds during the monsoon season. Some
rain water seeps into the ground and fills
wells and raises the ground water level. Rain

Underground Water

The rainwater that seeps into the ground, gets collected as underground
water. This water is safe and clean for drinking. Wells, handpumps and
