33 Water Bodies

Water bodies constitute areas of water, both salted and fresh, large and
small, which are distinct from one another in many ways.

There are many types of water bodies which are parts of the seas and
the oceans. Let us learn about three
            of them!

            Bay
A bay is a small and broad area of water

which is bordered by land on three
sides, similar to, but smaller than gulf
such as, the Bay of Bengal, James Bay

            and Hudson Bay.

                                                            Gulf
A gulf is a part of lake or ocean that extends

so that it is surrounded by land on three
sides, similar to, but larger than a bay such
as, the Gulf of Mexico, Persian Gulf and the

                                                            Gulf of Kutch.

                                                            Strait

A strait is a narrow channel of water that
connects two larger water bodies. It also
separates two landmasses and thus it lies

between them such as, the Strait of Gibraltar,
Palk Strait and the Strait of Dover.
