Semicolon (;)
G The semi-colon represents a pause greater than indicated by a comma. It is used
instead of the conjunctions and, but and so.

2. Ruhani is thin and tall; Geetika is fat and short.
Both the two sentences separated by (;) semicolon are main clauses.
Colon (:)
G We use a colon to introduce a list of things.
Read the following examples:
1. There are seven continents in the world: Asia, Africa, North America, South
America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia.
2. Mother bought a lot of fruits from the market: oranges, apples, bananas,
straw-berries and grapes.
Apostrophe (’)
G It is used to make short forms.

1. I’ve finished my sums but you haven’t.

G It is used to show possession. there, where, etc.

G They are used to show the exact words of the speaker or a quotation.
