P. 135

Look at the table carefully.

                       1 paisa = ` 0.01 3 paise = ` 0.03

                       4 paise = ` 0.04 5 paise = ` 0.05

                       6 paise = ` 0.06 10 paise = ` 0.10

                       80 paise = ` 0.80 85 paise = ` 0.85

                       94 paise = ` 0.94 100 paise = ` 1.00

                       6 rupees, 5 paise = ` 6.05 16 rupees, 9 paise = ` 16.09

                        25 rupees 50 paise = ` 25.50 or ` 25.5

When we write rupees we have to remember some points :

« Rupees and paise are separated by a dot or decimal point (.).

« If money is expressed in terms of `, there is no need to write the symbol
for paise. But, the symbol for Rupee or Rupees (`) is to be written before

                 the amount.

« If rupees and paise are to be written separately, then ` is written before and

‘paise’ is written after the amount and both are separated by a comma (,).

            Look at some examples.

            ` 34.08 paise means ` 34.08 or ` 34, 8 paise.

            ` 342.84 paise means ` 342.84 or ` 342, 84 paise.

            Conversion of Money

            Steps :

            1. To convert rupees into paise, multiply the given number by 100 and
                 write the answer in paise.

            2. To convert rupees and paise into paise, multiply the rupees by 100 and
add the paise (given) to it.

            3. To convert paise into rupees, divide the number by 100. The quotient will
be rupees and the remainder will be paise.

                                                                 Mathematics-4 135
