P. 165
Objective : To find the perimeter of a rectangle
Materials Required : A coloured chart paper, a carboard, a glue-stick, thread,
drawing pins, a ruler, a pencil, an eraser and a pair of scissors.
Preparation : Students will work in pairs.
Steps :
1. Draw a rectangle ABCD of any dimensions on the coloured chart paper.
2. Cut it out from the chart paper and paste it on the cardboard.
3. Put pins A, B, C, D at the corners.
4. Now, take a thread and turn it tightly around the drawing pins A, B, C and D
till it comes back to the starting point.
A B
C D
5. At this point A, cut off both the ends of the thread. Now, remove the thread
from the rectangle and measure its length using a ruler. This will give you the
perimeter of the rectangle.
6. So, you will get the length of the thread = perimeter of ABCD which will be
equal to AB + BC + CD + DA.
Record of the Activity :
Perimeter of the rectangle = cm.
