Square Numbers
Observe and understand how we form square numbers.
2×2=4 3×3=9 4×4=16 5×5=25
Pattern in Addition and Subtraction
a. 1 + 3 = 4 (2 × 2 = 4)
1 + 3 + 5 = 9 (3 × 3 = 9)
1 + 3 + 5 + 7 = ______ ( ______ × ______ = ______ )
1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 9 = ______ ( ______ × ______ = ______ )
1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 9 +11 = ______ ( ______ × ______ = ______ )
b. Look at the pattern and fill in the missing terms.
i. 60 40 25 15 Each number in the second row is obtained
by taking difference of two numbers above
20 15 10
it.
For Example :
60 – 40 = 20, 40 – 25 = 15, 25 – 15 = 10
Therefore, the numbers in the third row will be 20 – 15 = 5,
15 – 10 = 5.
Also, 5 – 5 = 0 will be the number in the last row. 14
ii. The difference of opposite numbers is 4. 9
Therefore, the number opposite to 28 will be 24. 20 5
The number opposite to 20 will be 16.
