Example : Estimate the difference of 192 and 168.

Solution : We use rounded off numbers to estimate.

To estimate : 192 and 168

We round off the numbers to the nearest ten and subtract :

Actual Difference 8 12

– 1 6 8

0 2 4 The estimated difference is 20.

The actual difference is 24.

The estimated difference 20 differs from the actual number 24 only by 4.
