            Looking Back

When we write big numbers containing 4 digits or more, we use a comma to
separate the thousands from the HTO. The comma tells us that the number
to the left of the comma is in a different house. In Maths, we call this house

            a period .

                                        Thousands Ones
                     Period
                                               Th H T O
                    (House)
                                                7 0 3 6

Here, we see the number 7036 placed in periods (or houses).

We write the number like this : 7,036

It is correct to use a comma in 4-digit numbers, but sometimes, it is omitted

for the sake of convenience, since a 4-digit number can be read easily.
