Roman Numerals
There are seven symbols in Roman Numerals. These are — I, V, X, L, C, D and M which
stand for 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 respectively. Besides these symbols, there is
another symbol ‘—’ which is called a bar .
This symbol is placed over a Roman numeral and the value becomes 1000 times of the
numeral. In this way V, XIV and D stand for 5000, 14000 and 500000 respectively.
These symbols are written under specific regulations as you have learnt earlier.
There are some more rules given here. Read them carefully.
