P. 42
« If two or more than two numbers are multiplied by changing the order of the
numbers, the product will always be the same.
425 × 604 = 256700 or 604 × 425 = 256700
\ 425 × 604 = 604 × 425
« The product of number by the sum of two or more than two numbers is the
same as the sum of the products of that number by the two or more than two
given numbers separately.
54 × (68 + 92) = 54 × 160 = 8640
Also, 54 × 68 + 54 × 92 = 3672 + 4968 = 8640
Thus, 54 × (68 + 92) = 54 × 68 + 54 × 92
4. Properties of Division
Before doing a division sum, recall the following basic properties of division :
« If any number is divided by 1, the quotient is the number itself.
451 ÷ 1 = 451 ; 8983 ÷ 1 = 8983
« If any number (other than zero) is divided by the number itself, the quotient is 1.
483 ÷ 483 = 1 ; 8437 ÷ 8437 = 1
« If ‘0’ is divided by any number, the quotient is 0.
0 ÷ 416 = 0 ; 0 ÷ 8000 = 0
« If any number is divided by zero, it has no meaning.
