Floating Plants
Plants that float on water are

              called floating plants. These are

small in size. They have spongy
stems, air filled leaves and stems.

Their roots also float and are not
fixed to the soil. For example,

Duckweed and Water Hyacinth. Duckweed Water Hyacinth

              Fixed Plants

The aquatic plants that remain fixed
at a place as they have roots fixed

to the soil under water are called
fixed plants. They have big round

leaves that float over the surface of
water. The stems are hollow and the

              leaves are broad and floating.
Stomata are present on the upper Water Lily Lotus

surface of the leaves. For example,
              Water Lily and Lotus.

              Underwater / Submerged Plants

Plants that grow under the water

              are called underwater or

              submerged plants. These plants
are fixed to the bottom of the water

with their roots. They have narrow, Hydrilla Vallisneria
thin leaves. Stomata are absent in these plants. For example, Hydrilla and

              Vallisneria.
              Aquatic Animals

Like plants, some animals also live in water. Animals that live in water are

              called aquatic animals .

Different kinds of fishes and several other animals like crabs, dolphins,
whales and seals live in water.
