47                     Flora and Fauna







            The Planet Earth is a beautiful place to live in. Life has flourished on the planet,

            thanks to the beautiful sun and vast ocean of water. No matter, where we go on
            the  planet,  there  are  stunning  plants,  flowers  and  animals  that  catch  our
            attention. They are two very important aspects of any ecosystem of all the living

            organisms on the planet, the most commonly seen by us are the plant life and the
            animal life. Apart from these two, more forms of life abound in the earth, but are
            harder to see with the naked eye. This is why the flora and fauna i.e., plant and

            wildlife of the earth are fascianting to observe and study.


                                                  The word “Flora”’ means plant life. This word comes
                                                  from the “flora” the goddess of flowers and plants. It

                                                  was  a  symbol  of  flowers,  nature  and  fertility  in
                                                  Roman mythology.





            The fauna is about animal life. Fauna was the goddess

            of Roman religion. Romans believed that this goddess
            nurture all the living creatures in the world.
