Building Numbers
Suppose, we are given 4 digits, say 3, 2, 4 and 5. You
can make many numbers with these given digits.
3245, 3254, 3452, 3425, 3524, 3542 and so on.
Building the Biggest Number Without Repetition
We have 4, 3, 8, 5 and 2 to build the greatest number.
Put the biggest digit in the ten thousands column,
then the next biggest digit in thousands column and T Th Th H T O
so on. We put the digits in descending order to get 8 5 4 3 2
85432 which is the biggest 5-digit number with the
given digits.
Building the Smallest Number Without Repetition
We have 4, 3, 8, 5 and 2 to build the smallest number. T Th Th H T O
Here, we put the digits in the ascending order to get
2 3 4 5 8
the number 23458. This is the smallest 5-digit number
with the given digits.
Example : Build the biggest and the smallest 4-digit numbers with the
digits 8, 3, 7, 4 and 1.
Solution : Biggest number 87431 (descending order of digits)
Smallest number 13478 (ascending order of digits)
Example : Build the biggest and the smallest 4-digit numbers with the
digits 0, 6, 2 and 9.
Solution : Biggest number 9620 (descending order of digits)
Smallest number 2069 (ascending order of digits except 0)
