            Rounding Off Numbers


            We round off numbers to estimate the figures or amounts.

            When  we  are  talking  about  the  crowd  of  people  watching  a  movie  in  a

            theatre, we may say, ‘about 700 people are watching the movie.’ The actual

            number could be 748 or 719 or anything else about near 700.

            Rounding Off to the Nearest 10

            While rounding off the number to the nearest 10.


            «  First of all we find, between which two tens, the number lies.
                 Look at the number line. See how rounding off works on the number line.

            «  If the digit at ones place is less than 5, do not change the tens, but put

                 zero at ones place.

                 43 is rounded off to 40 as it is closer to 40 than 50.

            «  If the digit at ones place is 5 or greater than 5, add 1 to the digit at tens

                 place and write zero at ones place.

                 48 is rounded off to 50 as it is closer to 50 than 40.
