Rounding Off to the Nearest 100
« First of all we find, between which two hundreds, the number lies.
86 is rounded off to 100. It is so because digit at tens place is greater
than 5.
223 is rounded off to 200. It is so because digit at tens place is less than 5.
1360 is rounded off to 1400. It is so because digit at tens place is greater
than 5.
« If the digit at tens place is less than 5, do not change the digit at
hundreds place, but put zeros at tens and ones places.
« If the digit at tens place is 5 or greater than 5, add 1 to the digit at
hundreds place and put zeros at tens and ones places.
Rounding Off to the Nearest 1000
« First of all we find, between which two thousands, the number lies.
« If the digit at hundreds place is less than 5, do not change the digit at
thousands place, but put zeros at hundreds, tens and ones places.
« If the digit at hundreds place is 5 or greater than 5, add 1 to the digit at
thousands place and put zeros at hundreds, tens and ones places.
Example : Round 8305 to the nearest 1000.
Solution : Here, 3 is less than 5.
So, 8305 is rounded off to 8000.
Let us estimate to find out the numbers.
« There are few whole numbers that round to 70 when rounded off to the
nearest ten. They are 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 71, 72, 73, 74.
