Example : Convert the 9 km into m.

Solution : 9 km = 9 × 1000 m ( 1 km = 1000 m)

= 9000 m

Example : Convert the following measurement to the units indicated :
a. 975 m to km b. 650 cm to m

c. 8000 mm to m d. 950000 cm to km

Solution : a. 1000 m = 1 km b. 100 cm = 1 m

975 m = km 650 cm = m

= 0.975 km = 6.5 m

c. 10 mm = 1 cm d. 100 cm = 1 m, 1000 m = 1 km

8000 mm = cm 950000 cm =
10 100 × 1000

= 800 cm = 9.5 km

Converting Grams into Kilograms

As there are 1000 grams in a kilogram, to convert gram into kilogram, simply divide the

grams by 1000. This means moving the decimal point 3 places to the left.
Example : Convert the following into kilogram :

a. 6000 g b. 8200 g c. 326 g

Solution : a. 6000 g =
1000

= 6 kg

8200
b. 8200 g =
1000

= 8.2 kg

326
c. 326 g =
1000

= 0.326 kg
