Comparison of Numbers
Example : Which one is greater ?
a. 84632948 or 8790576 b. 85769362 or 54321641
Solution : a. In the numerals 84632948 and 8790576, the first one has more digits.
So, the first numeral is greater than the second numeral.
Thus, 84632948 > 8790576.
b. In the numerals 85769362 and 54321641, both the numerals have
8-digits but the digits in the place of highest value are 8 and 5
respectively.
Here, 8 > 5. Thus, 85769362 > 54321641.
Example : Which is smaller ?
a. 384598412 or 384989412.
b. The smallest number of 9-digits or the largest number of 8-digits.
Solution : a. In the numerals 384598412 and 384989412 both have 9-digits having
equal digits in ten crore, crore and ten lakh places. In lakh places, the
digits are 5 and 9 respectively.
Since, 5 < 9 (5 is smaller than 9).
