5. Add “twenty five million three hundred ninety two thousand four hundred twenty nine”

to “two hundred ninety six million seven hundred sixty thousand eight hundred thirty
four” and write the sum in words according to Indian system of numeration.

            Subtraction of Large Numbers

To subtract a number from a given number, you must take the following steps :

« Arrange the given numbers in columns as you have arranged for addition.

« Begin with ones, go on subtracting columnwise, borrow if necessary, from the next
                 column to the left.

            Example : Subtract 256 million 126 thousand 924 from 7 billion 39 million 125
                            thousand 620.

            Solution : 7 0 3 9 1 2 5 6 2 0

                            – 2 5 6 1 2 6 9 2 4
                             6 7 8 2 9 9 8 6 9 6

Thus, the difference is 6782998696 which is 6 billion 782 million 998

                            thousand 696.

Example : The population of a state in 1995 was 94538469 and increased to
110500301 in 2002. Find the increase in population of the state in 2002

                            over that in 1995.

            Solution : Population in 2002 = 1 1 0 5 0 0 3 0 1
                          Population in 1995 = – 9 4 5 3 8 4 6 9

                                                             1 5 9 6 1 8 3 2

Thus, in 2002, the population of the state increased by 15961832.
