A ruler is marked with cen metres and
millimetres. Put the book on a flat surface
as shown in the given picture. Make the
zero mark of the ruler to coincide with one
end of the book and the reading coinciding
with the other end of the book is taken.
While measuring the length of an object the scale
should be placed properly at both ends.
Do’s
v The ruler should be kept on the object
properly.

where reading is to be taken.
v Keep the measuring device straight.

Aim : To measure the length of a curved
line.
Material required : A white paper, a

scale, a thermocol sheet.
Method:
Draw a curved line on the paper and fix it
on flat sheet of a thermocol. Fix the pins
at each and every turning of the line.
Now, move the thread on the curved line
along with fixed pins. Cut both the ends
of the thread which are touching the end
of the curved lines.
Now, remove the thread and place it on
a table straight and measure the length
of the thread with the help of a scale.
The measure of the thread will be the
length of the curved line.
