Durga Puja

              It is one of the most important

              festival  in  West  Bengal.  It  is
              celebrated for 10 days.


              Goddess  Durga  is  worshipped
              for  9  days  in  big  Pandals.  On

              the  10th  day,  idol  of  goddess

              Durga is immersed in water.
              Many such idols are immersed by different people.


              Harvest Festivals

              Harvest is the time when crops become ripe. People get money after

              the harvest, when they sell their crops. So, the festivals celebrated
              during  that  time  are  known  as  harvest  festivals.  In  India  many

              harvest festivals like Pongal, Baisakhi, Onam, etc. are celebrated.


              Lohri


              This  festival  is  celebrated  in  January.
              People light a bonfire and celebrate it

              with peanuts sugarcane and popcorn.

              People gather around the bonfire and

              perform  Gidda  to  the  beats  of  the
              dhol.  It  is  celebrated  mainly  in  north

              India and in Punjab.


              National Festivals


              Some  of  the  days  are  celebrated  by  people  all  over  the  country.
              These are called National Festivals. For e.g., Independence day.



              Independence Day

              It is celebrated on 15th August. On this day, in 1947, India got its
              independence from the British Rule.
