Dependence on Essential Services
We all depend on others to provide essential services. None of us can do all
the work by ourselves. Different people do different kind of work. This is
called division of labour .
Dignity of Labour
Everyone must be respected for the work he / she does. This is called dignity
of labour. It was very well said by Napoleon Bonaparte, “ No matter how
insignificant work one is doing, the fact that he is working, makes him /
her important.”
We must respect all types of works.
Social reformers like Swami Vivekanand, Swami Dayanand, Mahatma Gandhi
worked hard to eradicate the evils of the caste system. They believed that
educating people is the best way to create awareness to bring equality
between human beings.
Gandhiji believed in the dignity of labour .
Mahatma Gandhi Swami Vivekanand Swami Dayanand Saraswati
Gandhiji regarded all work equally important.
He did not feel shy to do any work. He used to
spin cotton for his own clothes. He also
cleaned toilets himself, because he wanted to
change the attitude of the people who called
it so dirty work. He renamed untouchables as,
‘Harijans’ meaning ‘Children of God.’
Gandhiji used to spin
cotton for his own clothes.
