Like us, animals too have sense
organs. The sense organs help them
in many ways. In this chapter, we
are going to discuss how animals
use their senses to find food.

              Senses in Animals

All animals have similar senses, but most of them have developed a
particular sense to match their specific survival needs.

They use their senses to locate food and to sense danger.

              Sense of Smell

g Dogs have a very strong sense of smell which help
them in locating their food. Because of this ability, Dog

they are used by police in rescue operations.

g Ants smell with their thin and long antennae. It helps
them to recognise their mates, follow trails laid down
by their mates and find food.
                                                                                                         Ant
g Snakes and lizards keep on flickering their forked
tongue to convey scent particles in the air to the pair
of sensory organs located at the roof of their mouth.
It helps them to know about their surroundings.

                                                                                                       Lizard
