Sense of Touch
g A cat’s whiskers act as very sensitive feelers. These
special hairs stick out from the cat’s cheeks and chin,
and from above its eyes. Theses hair help them to feel
their way around in the dark. Cat
g Fishes have a well developed sense of touch. It helps them to feel the
changes in the water pressure with the help of sensory organs along a
line through their head and trunk.
g A bird’s tongue, palate and bill are most sensitive to the sense of touch.
These structures contain many nerve endings.
Sense of Taste
g Butterflies, bees and houseflies have taste
receptors on their feet.
g An earthworm’s whole body has taste buds
called receptors on it.

g Snakes use their tongue to bring smell and
taste into their mouth.
Sense of Hearing
g Animals that hunt, like tigers and leopards
have a remarkable sense of hearing. They Snake

moving prey.
g Crocodiles have an amazing sense of hearing.
They can even hear their young ones inside Tiger Crocodile

g Spiders and cockroaches use the hair on their
legs to detect sound.
g Bats locate their prey by echo-location. Spider

The echoes of these sounds help them to
locate both food and obstacles.
