g Leather is obtained from the skin of animals like snakes, crocodiles, etc.
g Pearl is obtained from oysters.
g Some animals like horses, camels, elephants, etc. are used as means of
transport.
Animals in Danger
Wild animals are killed for fur, skin, bones,
horns, teeth and other body parts. These are
sold at high prices. Such illegal killing of
animals for their body parts is called poaching .
Poaching has led to the extinction of many
animals.
Animals like elephant, tiger, rhinoceros, great Endangered Animals
Indian bustard, black buck and musk deer are
facing the fear of extinction. They are called endangered animals . We must
join hands to protect these endangered animals.
Project Tiger
Rhinoceros is killed for its horns and elephant
is killed for its tusks.
Tigers are being hunted from last many years. Hence, their number has been
going down at an alarming rate.
To protect the tigers, ‘Project Tiger ’ was launched in 1973. The government
has set up tiger reserves in India to protect tigers.
How can We Protect Wildlife?
We need to consciously preserve and protect rare species of plants and
animals in their natural habitat. Follow these steps:
g Set up National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries.
g Stop others from killing endangered animals unnecessarily.
g Keep a check on the growth of human population.
