Indirect: The General commanded them to shoot the prisoner.
· Direct: The teacher said to the boys, “Don’t talk in the class.”
Indirect: The teacher ordered the boys not to talk in the class.
7. Exclamations and Wishes

The introductory verb in direct speech is changed into pray wish cry bless or
exclaim in indirect speech. Also, the words showing exclamations such as Hurrah,
Alas, Oh, Yes, etc. are omitted in indirect speech.
Read the following examples:
· Direct: He said, “How beautiful the painting is!”
Indirect: He exclaimed joyfully that the painting was very beautiful.
· Direct: He said, “Alas! I have broken my uncle’s bike.”
Indirect: He exclaimed sorrowfully that he had broken his uncle’s bike.
A. Write the following sentences into indirect speech.
1. Mohit says, “I eat an apple everyday.”
