Word Problems
Example : Maria purchased 24 m 25 cm rope and Nancy purchased 17 m 15 cm
rope. What is the total length of rope both of them purchased ?
Solution : Length of rope purchased by Maria = 24 m 25 cm
Length of rope purchased by Nancy = 17 m 15 cm
Total length of rope purchased by them 24 m 25 cm
= 24 m 25 cm + 17 m 15 cm + 17 m 15 cm
41 m 40 cm
\The total length of rope is 41 m 40 cm.
Example : Marry is 1 m 15 cm tall. Her friend Larry is 1 m 30 cm tall. Who is
taller and by how much ?
Solution : The height of Marry = 1 m 15 cm
1 m 30 cm
The height of Larry = 1 m 30 cm
– 1 m 15 cm
Difference between their heights 15 cm
= 1 m 30 cm – 1 m 15 cm
\Larry is taller by 15 cm
