Word Problems

            Example : Ravi purchased 5 kg 300 g of a packet of rice and 4 kg 200 g of a

packet of wheat flour. How much is the total weight of both the
                             packets ?
                                                                                                         kg g
            Solution : Weight of rice = 5 kg 300 g
                                                                                                         5 3 0 0
                          Weight of wheat flour = 4 kg 200 g
                                                                                                      + 4 2 0 0

Total weight of both the packets 9 5 0 0

                          = 5 kg 300 g + 4 kg 200 g

\ 9 kg 500 g is the total weight of both the packets.

            Example : Dev weighs 39 kg 900 g. Mohit weighs 35 kg 600 g. Who weighs

more and by how much ?
                                                                                                         kg g
            Solution : Dev’s weight = 39 kg 900 g
                                                                                                       3 9 9 0 0
                          Mohit’s weight = 35 kg 600 g – 3 5 6 0 0

                          Difference of their weights 0 4 3 0 0

                                                    = 39 kg 900 g – 35 kg 600 g

                          \ Dev weighs more by 4 kg 300 g
