Measurement of Capacity

The most commonly used measures of capacity are millilitres and litres. The
litre is the standard unit for measuring the amount of a liquid.

                                                  1 litre = 1000 millilitres

Look at the following table of measures of capacity.

                                     10 millilitres (ml) = 1 centilitre

                                     10 centilitres (cl) = 1 decilitre

                                     10 decilitres (dl) = 1 litre

                                     10 litres (l) = 1 decalitre

                                     10 decalitres (dal) = 1 hectolitre

                                     10 hectolitres (hl) = 1 kilolitre (kl)

            Conversion of Capacity

            Conversion of Litres into Millilitres

Example : Convert the 64 l 32 ml into mililitres.

            Solution : 1 l = 1000 ml

                            64 l 32 ml = 64 × 1000 ml + 32 ml

                                               = 64000 ml + 32 ml

                                               = 64032 ml

Example : Convert the 45 l 26 ml into millilitres.

            Solution : 1 l = 1000 ml

                              45 l 26 ml = 45 × 1000 ml + 26 ml

                                               = 45000 ml + 26 ml

                                               = 45026 ml
