P. 116
Objective :
Practicing in calculating measurement
Materials Required :
« 10” square of solid coloured, all-cotton broadcloth
(For example, navy blue)
« 5-1/2” square of solid coloured, all-cotton
broadcloth (For example, medium red)
« 4-1/2” square of solid coloured, all cotton broadcloth (For example, deep red)
« Sewing needle and coordinated thread (Quilting thread is easiest)
« Plastic loop (One that is used to hand drapes on a curtain rod works great)
« 4 squares of thin, all-cotton batting, 7” square (Be aware that polyester
batting can melt!)
Steps :
1. First, create the patchwork piece. Start by folding the 5-1/2” square along its
diagonal to make a crease separating two triangles. Then fold each triangle
in half to make a total of four triangles.
2. Place the long side of one triangle against one side of the 4-1/2” square so
that their edges line up. Using either a needle or a sewing machine, sew
them together with a ¼” seam as shown below. For a truly authentic
experience, be sure to sew by hand.
