Property 2 : Associative Property of Multiplication
When three or more numbers Associative property
are multiplied, the product is is also called as
grouping property.
the same regardless of the
grouping of the factors.
i.e., (a × b) × c = a × (b × c)
Example : Solve : (22 × 5) × 20 and 22 × (5 × 20)
Solution : (22 × 5) × 20 = 110 × 20 = 2200
22 × (5 × 20) = 22 × 100 = 2200
Thus, we concluded that (22 × 5) × 20 = 22 × (5 × 20).
Property 3 : Multiplication Property of One
The product of any number and one is that number.
i.e., a × 1 = 1 × a = a
Example : Solve : 312 × 1, 458 × 1, 82 × 1 and 22813 × 1
Solution :
3 1 2 4 5 8 8 2 2 2 8 1 3
× 1 × 1 × 1 × 1
3 1 2 4 5 8 8 2 2 2 8 1 3
We concluded that : H This property is also
called Identity property
312 × 1 = 312
of multiplication.
458 × 1 = 458 H Identity of multiplication
is 1.
82 × 1 = 82
22813 × 1 = 22813
