Estimating the Products
When the exact answer is not needed, we estimate the products. Estimation
helps us to see if an answer is reasonable. When we estimate, we use numbers
close to the original numbers.
Example : Estimate the product of 48 and 33.
Solution : Estimated Product Actual Product
4 8
48 5 0 Rounding off × 3 3
33 × 3 0 numbers to 1 4 4
the nearest 10.
1 5 0 0
+ 1 4 4 0
The estimated product is close to the actual product. 1 5 8 4
