Division by 10
When a number is divided by 10, the digits, except the digit at the one’s
place, make the quotient and the digit at one’s place becomes the remainder.
Example : Divide 47 by 10. Example : Divide 285 by 10.
4 2 8
Solution : Solution :
10 4 7 10 2 8 5
– 4 0 – 2 0
0 7 8 5
– 8 0
So, 47 ÷ 10 0 5
Quotient = 4
So, 285 ÷ 10
Remainder = 7
Quotient = 28
Remainder = 5
Example : Divide 160 by 20. Example : Divide 450 by 50.
Solution : 8 Solution : 9
20 1 6 0 50 4 5 0
– 1 6 0 – 4 5 0
0 0
So, 160 ÷ 20 So, 450 ÷ 50
Quotient = 8 Quotient = 9
Remainder = 0 Remainder = 0
