1. 14 88 2. 14 176 3. 26 58
4. 38 93 5. 36 252 6. 24 620
7. 42 223 8. 41 462 9. 32 352
10. 82 911 11. 53 667 12. 29 147

Division by a 2-Digit Number
Example : 16 people can sit in a boat. How many
boats are needed to carry 96 people ?
Solution : 96 ÷ 16 = ?
Step 1 : First estimate the quotient.
16 96 rounds to 20 100
To solve this we think of 10 ÷ 2 10 ÷ 2 = 5
The estimated quotient is 5.
Step 2 : Let us try the estimated quotient.
16 × 5 = 80 ; 16 × 6 = 96
The product is equal to the dividend.
Take that number as the actual quotient.
Step 3 : Divide :
6 Checking : Quotient = 6, Remainder = 0
16 96
16 × 6 = 96
– 96 Thus, 6 boats are needed to
carry 96 people.
