Mid-day Meal


              Now-a-days, most of the government schools in our country provide mid day
              meal. It is a special school meal programme in India where lunch is provided
              to the school children. This meal is free of cost.

              A menu plant is displayed on the notice board outside the Principal’s office.
              It tells the children, what they get to eat on each day of the week. Special

              dishes are served on important days like Independence Day and Diwali.

              It  has many advantages :

              g    It creates unity amongst children.

              g    It improves the health of the children.

              g    It develops a sense of sharing.

              g    It increases attendance of the school.


              g    Children learn to eat together.

              g    Children are provided nutritious food.                               Mid-day Meal


              Eating at a Boarding School


              Anita’s  elder  brother,  Raunak
              studies in a boarding school in
              a  different  city.  He  stays  in  a

              hostel.  The  hostel  has  a  big
              dining  hall  called  hostel  mess,
              where  all  the  students  eat
              together.  They  have  a  fixed

              menu  for  the  week.  The
              students  learn  to  eat  all  the
              dishes which are served there.





               *  When a large number of people eat together, it is called community eating.

               *  Eating together promotes a feeling of love and togetherness.
               *  In langar, the food is served from buckets using spoons with long handles.

               *  In government schools, mid-day meal is provided to children.
